HOW THE VOTING WORKS

There are two stages to the voting process

Shortlisting of all nominated sites by a panel of judges

Members of the public will vote for their favourite sites from the shortlist

STAGE ONE: Shortlisting

When nominations close at the end of May a shortlist of sites will be drawn up by a panel of judges. We expect this to mean between three and five sites for each category, but it depends on the nature of the entries (this is the first year so we're giving ourselves a bit of grace!)

The panel of judges currently includes:

Helen Grant, thisisbrightonandhove

Nic Pollinger, Lycos

Prof Alan Cawson, Sussex University

Ann Light, Web design author

Kevin Carey, HumanITy

Mark Walker, SCIP
* the detailed list is subject to confirmation. In fact, it's not too late to suggest someone, or volunteer yourself

Judges will use a simple ten point checklist to provide an overall percentage score for each site nominated. They will then meet to discuss their views and select a shortlist of between three and five sites to be voted on by members of the public.

Details of these criteria are available on this site. Click here to see them.

STAGE TWO: Public voting

The judges will help sift out the best in each category but we think it's important to see what the local surfing public thinks. During June voting will take place at this website to choose the best site from the shortlists in each category (plus any others we've come up with by then).

Final winners will be selected based on voting by the public, but the judges retain the final decision to avoid problems with possible 'cheating' - this is the only way we can think of to avoid people rigging the vote by voting for themselves ten million times.

The winners will then be announced at an Awards Ceremony in July, Sussex Arts Club and featured in the local press, on the Lycos UK site and other sponsors' web sites
