Chat rooms are the places where you can have conversations with people from all over the world. Talk is in the form of typed messages and everyone in the chat room can see your message and you can see everyone else’s. Many of them are themed so you can join in with a topic that you’re interested in. Discuss the cricket with enthusiasts, share cooking tips and recipes, find other fans of your favourite film star or simply discuss the weather. Others enable you to chat to celebrities if you join in a specific times.
Remember that people can’t hear the tone of your voice of see your facial expressions so may not realise when you are joking. That’s why there are some net signs which are really just a bit of fun. Show you’re smiling with a :-), laugh out loud (lol), show you’re shocked :-( or laughing :-D.
You can be yourself or adopt a character. Some chat rooms are for role-playing so you can lose yourself in a fantasy world. It’s a bit like playing the board game ‘Dungeons and Dragons’.
