View the Mona Lisa without going to Paris, visit The Tate without leaving home or discover artists you've never heard of before. More and more artists and art galleries are showing their work on the internet. You can look at the artwork, read reviews and maybe even purchase something that you like the look of (or a print or postcard as a cheaper alternative!). It’s no substitute for seeing the original piece of art but it is a good way of viewing collections from around the world. Local artists are getting in on the act too - several art groups in the area now have their own websites.

Interesting online art collections

Tate Gallery www.tate.org.uk - this famous London gallery boasts an impressive website. All of the collections housed at the Tate can be viewed online and there is comprehensive accompanying information. There is also the opportunity to buy merchandise from the online shop. It's a good way of avoiding the often lengthy queues for new exhibitions or seeing if it'll be worth making the journey to see the real things.
The Bridge www.virtualvisibilia.org.uk/thebridge - this site provides a platform for a variety of artists to display their work to a global audience. It aims to promote the visibility of artists in the South of England and is very nicely designed and easy to use.
Webmuseum http://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/wm/ - the webmuseum hosts various art collections from around the world. The images are very clear and there are comprehensive details about the artists. This site is run as a hobby which makes the number of pieces of art available on it all the more impressive.

www.crabfish.co.uk/fiveways.htm - a collection of the works of local artists belonging to the Fiveways Artists' Group. There are details on each artist and their work and contact information. Many of the pieces that are displayed on their website can also be viewed in the 'Open Houses' during the Festival. An eclectic mixture of art using a variety of mediums - paintings, prints, sculpture, ceramics, glass, jewellery and more.

The Louvre http://mistral.culture.fr/louvre/louvrea.htm - take a virtual tour of the renowned Paris gallery, the Louvre, without leaving the country. The navigation is not the best and it can take some time to download the pictures, but the quality is good which can make the wait worthwhile.
